Tips for Living a Long and Healthy Life

It may not be a surprise to hear that fitness is closely tied with quality of life, but what is often overlooked is its link with the longevity of life. In fact, there are many simple health and lifestyle choices you can make in your life now and going forward to help ensure that you live for a long time to come. It’s time to get off the couch and start living life to the fullest with these simple tips for a long and healthy life.

The first tip is probably the one most widely known: exercise and watch your weight. Try to get moving for at least 30 minutes every day and keep an eye on the scale. Choosing to put in the effort to stay in good shape will increase your health now and for the rest of your life.
Also important for your health is sleep, but too much sleep has been linked to a shorter lifespan as well as not enough. Aim to sleep 7 to 8 hours each night, with a minimum of six. Less than 4 and more than 8 have proven themselves to be potentially unhealthy. Also aim to get high quality and uninterrupted sleep, so your body can fully use this time to repair itself.

To live long you should also try to adopt a positive outlook on life. Instead of sitting on changing room benches worried about what others will think of your fitness level, head into the gym with confidence and keep your eyes on the prize. In other words, try not to let life get you down and it may actually help to keep you healthy. Of course, laugh and smile as much as you can and try find someone in your life who brings you joy whether a friend, partner or family member.

Finally, make sure you keep up on your doctors visits. This means attending your annual check-up and have regular exams specific to your gender and age. Also don’t forget to do self checks as this can actually save your life.
Studies are showing that life is really what we make of it. These simple steps help put you back behind the wheel and in control of your own life. With a bit of luck and following these simple tips you should be on track to healthier you.
